Words: Paul Laurence Dunbar, Music: Samuel Coleridge-Taylor
A series of seven poems by Paul Laurence Dunbar set to music, African Romances, was one the most important accomplishments of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor's very short life. The songs include, An African Love Song, A Prayer, A Starry Night, Dawn, Ballad, Over the Hills and How Shall I Woo Thee? The two collaborated again on the opera Dream Lovers in 1898.
