Best known for her collaborations with Langston Hughes, and as a writer and arranger of concert art songs, Margaret Bonds also won distinction as a composer/arranger of jazz-infused spirituals. Ezekiel Saw the Wheel is one of her first spiritual arrangements, most of which were published in the 1960s. Other important arrangements of spirituals include He's Got the Whole World in His Hands, Little David, Play On Your Harp, and Lord, I Just Can't Keep from Cryin'.
