Anne Brigman
Self-Portrait
Alfred Stieglitz and Georgia O’Keeffe Archive

This photograph, taken on one of her long camping trips, bears a note on the back from Brigman to her friend and fellow photographer, Alfred Stieglitz: “Scarcely a Sunday thru the past year has been missed from the trail. It gives back serenity and peace and a new hold on the good life that is ours for the taking (if we are only wise enough to know how). You’d love it [once] you got your walking legs into shape.” In closing, she refers to her image in the photograph: “The lady has a good mouth for pie!”
