Dorothy P. (Penny) Arthur’s research interest is in eighteenth-century French literature and cultural history. Her current project at the Beinecke Library is the critical edition of volume XI of the Correspondance de Madame de Graffigny. After teaching French language and literature briefly at Princeton University, she has spent most of her professional career teaching French and English at the secondary level in Toronto, Canada, where she has lived since 1979. She is affiliated with the team of editors led by J.A. Dainard and sponsored by the Department of French, University of Toronto; the Correspondance de Madame Graffigny has been published by the Voltaire Foundation, Oxford, since 1985.
