Thomas McLean is a lecturer in Nineteenth-Century Literature at the University of Otago in New Zealand. His dissertation, “The Other East: Poland, Russia and British Romanticism” (University of Iowa, 2004) explores representations of Eastern Europe in nineteenth-century British literature and culture. He is currently collecting materials for a bibliography and biography of the British novelist Jane Porter (1777-1850). A recipient of fellowships from the Huntington Library and the Houghton Library at Harvard, his scholarly work appears in Keats-Shelley Journal, Huntington Library Quarterly and Victorian Poetry.
