Christopher Stray is an Honorary Research Fellow at the Department of Classics, University of Wales Swansea, since 1989. In 1996-8 he was a Visiting Fellow at Wolfson College, Cambridge, supported by a grant from the Spencer Foundation, Chicago. His main scholarly interests include history and sociology of classical teaching and scholarship; history of textbooks; slangs, family languages, and idiolects. Christopher Stray is the author of The Living Word. W.H.D. Rouse and the crisis of Classics in Edwardian England, BCP/Duckworth, 1992; Grinders and grammars: a Victorian controversy. [The Latin Primer controversy in the columns of The Times in 1866.
