Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, Room 38

After describing the extraordinary extent of the Spinelli Archive, Sue Roberts will talk briefly about the prominence of the family in the Renaissance period and then focus in more detail on some of the dramas and apparent financial struggles of several members of the generation born in the 1560s and 1570s. How did the family manage to hang on to its patrimony and prestige?

Sue Roberts is the former Librarian for European and Commonwealth History at Yale's Sterling Memorial Library, and she is currently researching the history of the Spinelli family of Florence.
