Mondays at Beinecke | Saul Steinberg's Maps
Monday, June 9, 2014 - 4:00pm
Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library
121 Wall St., New Haven, CT 06511
Please join us on Monday, June 9, at 4 p.m. for a Mondays at Beinecke gallery talk by Will Norman, a Fulbright Visiting Fellow and lecturer in American literature at the University of Kent.
Saul Steinberg, the emigre artist and illustrator most famous for his collaborations with the New Yorker, had a deep fascination with maps. In his work he continually reconfigured geography to produce strange, comic representations of global and national space. Drawing on a selection of parodic maps from the Saul Steinberg papers, Norman will explore Steinberg's spatial imagination and consider the politics of his work.
Tea will follow on the Beinecke's mezzanine. Two additional summer Mondays at Beinecke gallery talks will occur on July 7 and August 11.
