New Haven is accessible by car, airport shuttle, and train from a number of regional airports in Connecticut and in the greater New York metropolitan area. Please verify current schedules and fares with ground transportation service providers before booking your flight.

Special RBMS chartered shuttle services will be available from key regional airports and other travel hubs (e.g. New Haven's Union Station and the Connecticut Limo terminal in New Haven) on peak travel days preceding the preconference, and on the closing day. Please see the sections below for details.

Airfare discounts are available via ITS, the official ALA travel coordinator for the preconference, with US Airways and United Airlines. ITS will also provide custom itineraries with the best routing and journey times available. To receive the exclusive discounts call ITS toll-free at 800-621-1083 (847-940-1176 outside the U.S. and Canada) from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CST, Monday through Friday. Bradley International Airport (BDL)
In Connecticut, Bradley International Airport (BDL), near Hartford, CT, is 52 miles north of New Haven, and is served by most major airlines and/or their affiliate commuter lines. It is the most convenient major airport for travel to and from New Haven.

From the airport to New Haven: The major rental car agencies have desks at Bradley. In addition, the airport is served by several bus and limousine services, including Connecticut Limousine (approximate round-trip fare is $64).

A Connecticut Limousine charter van will be available, at a discounted fee, for RBMS attendees at specific, fixed times before the conference, on June 20 and 21, and on the closing day, June 24. The fee is payable with your conference registration. On arrival, the van will drop off pre-conference attendees at the Omni Hotel and Dormitory Housing. Departure on Thursday will be from the Omni Hotel (a free local shuttle will be available from Dormitory Housing to the Omni on Thursday morning).

For those taking non-chartered CT Limo service to New Haven, a free shuttle for RBMS attendees will be making a loop that includes the Connecticut Limo terminal, Dormitory Housing, and the Omni Hotel. It will run June 20 (12:00-8:00 p.m.) and June 21 (10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.).

LaGuardia Airport (LGA), and John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK)
The largest selection of airlines and prices is available to travelers flying into the New York City airports: LaGuardia Airport (LGA), and John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), Queens, NY, are both approximately 80 miles south of New Haven.

From the airport to New Haven: From JFK and LaGuardia, frequent Connecticut Limousine van service to New Haven is available (approximate round-trip fare is $98). Another option is to take the New York Airport Service Express Bus to Grand Central Station in Manhattan ($10-13 one way), and then take the Metro-North commuter train to New Haven's Union Station (round-trip fare is approximately $26-35, depending on time of travel). Trains leave hourly.

Newark Airport (EWR)
Although Newark Airport (EWR), in Newark, New Jersey, just south of Manhattan, is somewhat further (95 miles), there is a very convenient direct Amtrak rail link right at the Newark airport to New Haven's Union Station. Newark Airport offers direct flights to Orlando (site of the main ALA conference) from several carriers.

Please be advised, however, that the last Amtrak and Connecticut Limo service from Newark Airport is relatively early (approximately 7:00 p.m.). Contact Amtrak or CT Limo for the most current schedules before booking your flight to Newark.

From the airport to New Haven: Take the AirTrain from the terminal to the Newark Airport train station. The Amtrak rail trip from Newark takes about 2 hours; the round-trip fare is approximately $82. New Haven's Union Station is a 5-minute taxi ride from the Omni Hotel and the Yale Campus, both in the heart of New Haven. Public transport is also available from the train station to downtown New Haven. Connecticut Limo also offers service from Newark to its New Haven terminal.

On June 20 (12:00-8:00 p.m.) and June 21 (10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.), a free shuttle for RBMS attendees will be making a loop including Union Station, the Connecticut Limo terminal in New Haven, Dormitory Housing, and the Omni Hotel. On June 24, a shuttle will be available from Dormitory Housing to the Omni Hotel (7:00-9:30 a.m.), and from the Omni Hotel and Dormitory Housing to Union Station (12:00-2:00 p.m.).

Tweed-New Haven (HVN)
New Haven's local airport, Tweed-New Haven (HVN), is approximately 20 minutes from downtown New Haven and the Yale campus, by car or taxi. Although small and serviced only by US Airways, very convenient flights (either direct or through main US Airway hubs such as Philadelphia, Denver, and Chicago) are available. There are also flights to Orlando (site of the main ALA conference) by way of Philadelphia.

TF Green Airport (PVD)
Another regional airport, TF Green Airport (PVD), in Providence, RI, is 96 miles east of New Haven.

From the airport to New Haven: Airport Taxi and Limousine Service runs a shuttle to the Amtrak train station in downtown Providence (shuttle is $9 one way). Greyhound Bus service is also available from downtown Providence to New Haven. Car rental may be the best option from this airport.
