The Library's catalog, Orbis, provides access to collections material across the Yale University Library. Below is a list of recently cataloged Beinecke Library acquisitions that are now available in the catalog.
Circa 700 typed and manuscript letters, inventories, invoices, and drawings documenting J. G. Braecklein's career in Native American artifact collecting and dealing. Correspondents include millionaire and prominent collector Edward Waldron Payne; museum curators in Missouri, Nebraska, Wisconsin, and California; and amateur collectors in Missouri and Kansas. The materials provide descriptions of hundreds of artifacts, including physical descriptions, prices, drawings, and provenance. Braecklein also describes several of his archaeological excavations to find new artifacts. Many letters document Braecklein's advisory relationship with museums establishing Native American collections.
