Description: Bound typed and illustrated manuscript of The Borrowed Christmas, by Ludwig Bemelmans, string-tied with quarter canvas tape and painted boards. It has a hand-painted title page and fifteen leaves of text with illustrations on each leaf. Most of the illustrations are watercolor representations of Santa Claus playing various musical instruments. The story and illustrations were first published in the December 1952 issue of Holiday magazine, and afterward published as a holiday gift book (New York: American Artists Group, 1953) with additional illustrations.
