An early example of a duplex ballot-box invented by Juan Watson Ernest of Los Angeles, California, circa 1892. He later improved the ballot box with an alarm mechanism, which he patented in the United States (Patent Number 499,337) and in Canada (Patent Number 46,517). A photocopy of the United States patent specification accompanies the box.
