Description: Autograph manuscript letter, signed, from Theodore W. French of Emporia, Kansas to his cousin, written on the verso of a 1857 prospectus of the Kanzas News. The letter advises French's cousin on the best places to settle in the American west, particularly in Kansas and Minnesota. French writes that he relocated to Kansas to help prevent the further extension of slavery. He also reports on his social life in Emporia.
