Journals, correspondence, photographs, and memorabilia documenting the military service of John Potts Slough and Hugh Key McGrath and their involvement in the Indian War. The papers include two typescript journals written by McGrath pertaining to the Black Hills Expedition of 1874, led by George Armstrong Custer, and the Big Horn Expedition of 1876. Also included is incoming and outgoing correspondence of John Potts Slough, 1911-1927; a letter from George Stinebaker to Frank Lewis pertaining to John Potts Slough's divorce from his wife, Lota White Slough, 1927; 3 badges of National Indian War veterans; documents pertaining to Indian War, 1916 and undated; and military records, photographs, and correspondence pertaining to McGrath's military service, 1934 and undated.
Autograph manuscript of the ballad Johnie Blunt by Robert Burns, undated, written on the verso of an address leaf that had been mailed to Burns at his office in Dumfries. It was bound with two autograph letters, signed, to Henry Sage from Bernard Quaritch regarding the ballad's authenticity and a typescript transcription of one letter with an invoice. The letters are dated 1900 August 3 and September 4 and the transcript and invoice are dated 1900 September 4.
