Mahala Dutton Benedict Douglas (1864-1945) photographed by Carl Van Vechten, New York, November 22, 1935. Douglas survived the sinking of the Titanic. Her husband, Walter Donald Douglas, an heir to the Quaker Oats Company, went down with the ship, April 14-15, 1912

Dick Griffith, born to a rodeo family in Canton, Oklahoma in 1913 won four consecutive world-championship bull riding titles from 1939-1942. He stopped in New York to be photographed by Carl Van Vechten in October, 1940.
