Recent Ruth Stephan Research Fellows Margaret Woodward and Justy Phillips consider writing, creativity, and collaboration in their essay Maggot and Crow, published in the Sydney Review of Books Writers at Work Series.

Writers at Work features essays by critics, essayists, poets, artists, and scholars exploring “how writers get made and how writing gets made in the twenty-first century.”


Artists, writers and publishers, Justy Phillips and Margaret Woodward are based in Hobart, Tasmania. They work collaboratively as A Published Event. Their published works are held in national and international public and private collections. Margaret Woodward has a PhD from Curtin University and is Adjunct Associate Professor at Charles Sturt University where she is also a member of the Institute for Land Water and Society. Justy Phillips is a Masters graduate from The Royal College of Art, London and holds a PhD in creative media from RMIT University.
