A semester full of films: Yale Film Archive presents 20 weeks of free movies

On Fri., Jan. 12, the Yale Film Archive launches its spring lineup of new films. There’s a new screening almost every week through May 2.

The 20 films on view are part of three special series hosted by the Yale Film Archive:

“Treasures from the Yale Film Archive” is an ongoing series of classic and contemporary films from around the world shown in their original 35mm format—as they were meant to be seen. The Treasures from the Yale Film Archive series is presented with generous support from Paul L. Joskow ’70 M. Phil., ’72 Ph.D.

“The World of James Ivory” presents highlights from across the seven-decade career of filmmaker James Ivory, drawn from his personal collection of film prints donated to the Yale Film Archive in 2023. From literary adaptations and sweeping epics to intimate stories of human relationships, these films showcase Ivory’s versatility and the diversity of his fruitful collaboration with partners Ismail Merchant and Ruth Prawer Jhabvala.

The “Cinemix” series features stand-alone screenings of standout films, presented with colleagues from across campus and beyond, using media from the Yale Film Archive collection and beyond.
