Making the English Book: Conference, October 6-7

September 19, 2017

By Michael Morand

“Making the English Book,” will be held at Yale University on October 6th and 7th, 2017 at the Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library. The conference coincides with our scurrent special exhibition – “Making the Medieval English Manuscript: The Takamiya Collection in the Beinecke Library” –  that celebrates the collection of Professor Toshiyuki Takamiya, acquired last summer by the Beinecke Library. The Takamiya collection includes over one hundred medieval manuscripts, most of which were produced in England. This conference will spark conversation not only about the Takamiya collection, but also about the larger collection of Middle English manuscripts housed at the Beinecke, and about the idea of the English book more broadly. Our speakers will present papers that define trends in English book production or seek to interrogate and qualify such trends. Professor Alexandra Gillespie (University of Toronto) and Professor Daniel Wakelin (Oxford University) will deliver plenary lectures, and the event will conclude with a conversation with Professor Takamiya about his manuscripts.

Please note: conference is free and open to the public  -  registration is required. You can read more information about the conference, including a deatiled program, and can register online by clicking here.
