Research Services

Ask a Librarian

Librarians and curators in the Beinecke Library are available to assist researchers in identifying and using materials in the Beinecke Library during reading room hours. Researchers are also encouraged to contact curators in advance to schedule appointments.

On-site readers may wish to discuss their research needs in person with our Research Librarian.

Off-site researchers may submit reference inquiries regarding Beinecke holdings and policies to the Public Services Department via:

Email: beinecke.library@yale.edu
Telephone: (203) 432-2972
Fax: (203) 432-4047
Mail: P.O. Box 208240, New Haven, CT 06520-8240
Reference inquiries are answered in the order in which they are received.

Copies, Photographs, Scans

To place a request for photographic or digital reproductions of any kind, please refer to Ordering Reproductions.  All requests for reproductions should be sent to beinecke.images@yale.edu.

Whom We Serve

The Beinecke reference staff will respond to all questions pertaining specifically to the Library's collections or policies. The full range of reference services is offered to the Yale community. The Library can not answer general reference questions that do not pertain to the Library's collection submitted by non-affiliates.

Note that the reference staff does not perform extensive research. If you are unable to visit the library you might consider hiring a research assistant. Yale University graduate students are available for hire. Contact the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences' Office of Career Services at (203) 432-2583 or P.O. Box 208236, New Haven, CT 06520.
