Boston Globe: As Rare as Its Books, Beinecke Turns 50 at Yale

The Boston Globe Travel section of the Sunday Magazine featured the Beinecke Library’s 50th anniversary year, special events, architectural history, and exhibitions on the Library’s building, people, appearances in popular culture, and myths.

In 1963, “among Yale librarians, Gordon Bunshaft’s avant-garde design was about as popular as loud noises and gum-chewing patrons. They decried it as a ‘white elephant’ and a ‘floating folly.’ …On its golden anniversary, the Beinecke is now a Yale icon.”
