Margaret Williamson moved to the U.S. from the U.K.  in 1999 to teach Classics and Comparative Literature at Dartmouth College.  She is the author of Sappho’s Immortal Daughters (1995), and remains interested in the reception of ancient literature, including lyric, in the modern world.  Her current interests include translation, modern stagings of Greek drama, and the uses and cultural politics of classical learning.  Her work on Thomas Thistlewood’s papers at the Beinecke is part of a project entitled Creole Classics, which explores the ways in which the cultural capital of classical learning was deployed in and concerning the British Caribbean in the Age of Abolition.
