In her senior essay and a related exhibition at Sterling Memorial Library, Eve Sneider Y’19 explores the work of journalist Janet Malcolm.

Of her project, Eve writes, “In her long career as a journalist, Janet Malcolm has earned a reputation as one of her generation’s most sophisticated and, at times, controversial nonfiction prose stylists. A regular contributor to The New Yorker and The New York Review of Books from the 1970s through to the present, her work is at the fore of reimagining what journalism can look like and accomplish. The Courtroom, the Couch, and the Archive examines the literary worlds Malcolm conjures in three different spaces—the lawyer’s courtroom, the psychoanalyst’s couch, and the biographer’s archive. Ultimately, the articles and books she crafted out of each of these places offered a new model for how to write stories about other people that are also stories about the process of writing, and about the writer herself.”

An exhibition derived from Eve’s senor essay research will be on view at Sterling Memorial Library from May 13-October6, 2019. Eve will give brief remarks about her research at the exhibition opening reception: Tuesday, May 14, 4:30-6pm.
