Biography

Anna Farkas completed her DPhil in English literature at the University of Oxford in August 2010. In October 2011 she will be taking up a post as Assistant Professor of English Literature at the University of Regensburg, Germany. Her research interests lie in Victorian and modern British drama. She is currently revising her thesis for publication as a monograph with the working title,The Path to Rebellion: Women, Feminism and the English Theatre in the 1890s. She is also embarking on a new, book-length project that will challenge the conventional representation of J. M. Barrie as a writer of escapist fantasies. At the Beinecke, she will be working with the J. M. Barrie collection to investigate Barrie’s feminism, which runs as a consistent strain throughout his career, and which has never been properly considered, both in its own right, and as an indicator for an authorial identity that is diametrically opposed to the traditional conception of the author of Peter Pan, that of a political writer.
