Biography

Claire Knowles is a lecturer in English at La Trobe University, Melbourne.  She has published articles on female Romantic writers, gothic fiction, and Romantic celebrity, and her book, Sensibility and Female Poetic Tradition, 1780-1860: The Legacy of Charlotte Smith, was published by Ashgate in 2009. While at the Beinecke, Claire will be working on a project on daily newspapers and the emergence of popular poetic culture in the late eighteenth century.
