Donald Wallace is Assistant Professor of History at the United States Naval Academy, where he teaches courses on nineteenth- and twentieth-century modernism and nationalism. He completed his PhD at the University of California, San Diego (David S. Luft, advisor). His research specialty is European intellectual history. His present focus is on Austrian novelist Hermann Broch and Broch’s aesthetic and political history. He is currently finishing his first book manuscript, The Death of Civilization: Aesthetics and Politics in the Work of Hermann Broch (expected 2013, Peter Lang Press). The book examines Broch’s writing on anti-fascism and internationalism—a theme developed in his article, The Obscure Sea Change: Hermann Broch, Fascism, and the United Statesin the Fruits of Exile, edited by Richard Bodek (Columbia, SC: University of South Carolina Press, 2010).
