Dr. Lindsay Twa is Assistant Professor of Art at Augustana College, SD, where she teaches a range of art history courses and directs the Eide/Dalrymple Gallery, curating 7 exhibitions per year and managing a permanent art collection of over 3500 objects. She received a B.A. in studio art and music from Concordia College, Moorhead, MN, and a M.A. and Ph.D. in art history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her research focuses on the black diaspora and exchanges between African-American artists and the Caribbean, particularly Haiti. Dr. Twa is currently completing research for a book, tentatively titled When Haiti was in Vogue, an examination of representations of Haiti and cultural exchanges with the United States. While in residence at the Beinecke Library, she will be focusing particularly on the role of tourism and transnational activism between Haiti and the United States, focusing particularly on the James Weldon Johnson Papers and the Walter Francis White and Poppy Cannon Papers.
