Announcing a staged reading of The Passover Question
a new play written by Erica Wachs (JE ‘18)
based on research in the Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas Papers.

The Passover Question written by Erica Wachs (JE ‘18) will be presented as a staged reading at 8 pm on February 24th and February 25th in the Jonathan Edwards College Theater. Primarily influenced by the relationship and correspondence between Gertrude Stein and Bernard Fäy, The Passover Question considers the question of Gertrude Stein’s Jewish identity. The play alternates between the lives of Gertrude Stein and her family living in Vichy, France in 1941, and a Jewish family at their Passover Seder in 2016. The show comments on families, war, religion, discrimination, and art from the mid-20th century to the present.
