Mondays at Beinecke returns, virtually! Mondays at 4:00 pm during the academic year, all are cordially invited to gallery talks, online for now, with Beinecke Library staff, researchers, and friends.
The series resumes for Fall 2020 with a session on Monday, September 28, 4 pm, focused on Langston Hughes and democracy. You will learn about a little-known work by the great American poet: a 1956 historical sequence, “The Ballot and Me: The Negro’s Part in Suffrage.” This occasional piece was commissioned by the St. James Presbyterian Church in Harlem and performed there on June 29, 1956, as part of a voter registration drive. The gallery talk will also include a reading of a Hughes poem or two on the topic of democracy.

The discussion and reading will be led by Beinecke Library intern Brooke Harris MY ‘20, communications director Michael Morand, and communications associate Tubyez Cropper.
